WS GAME 1 TOTAL BEATDOWN
(MLB) Philadelphia vs. Houston,
Total: 6.50 | 105.00 Under
Result: Loss
Destiny vs. Dynasty. The Phillies will look to keep their destiny going when they open the world series in Houston. it won't be easy as Houston has yet to lose in the playoffs this year. The Phillies were the last National League team to make the playoffs and lost just two games in knocking off the Cardinals, Braves, and Padres The Phillies averaged five runs a game against the Padres and allowed 3.8 runs to make the World Series. Aaron Nola gets the start for the Phillies in Game 1. In three postseason games, he has posted a 2-1 record with a 3.12 ERA. He did not fare well in his last start, he went 4.2 innings and gave up six earned runs and two home runs in a loss to the Padres. Against the Cards and Braves, he threw 12.2 scoreless innings. This is the fourth time in the last six years the Astros have made it to the World Series. The Houston Astros have found themselves in this spot for the fourth time in the past six years.
The Astros averaged 4.5 runs against the Yankees in their four-game sweep and allowed 2.25 runs a game. Justin Verlander will get the start for the Astros. Which Verlander will show up? the one that started the playoffs getting roughed up by Seattle? or the one that pitched against the Yankees? Verlander allowed six earned runs on 10 hits in four innings against the Mariners. He bounced back with six innings and one earned run and three hits and eleven strikeouts against the Yankees.

Totals will be the toughest bets this whole series. You have great pitching but also teams that can hit the long ball and small stadiums. In game one at least, I think runs will come at a premium. Verlander allowed one earned run and three hits against the Yankees in the ALCS. This year against Philadelphia he went five scoreless innings and didn't allow a hit with 10 strikeouts. Aaron Nola gave up two hits and zero runs in 6.2 innings of work against the Astros this year. Throw in the fact that the Astros pen has been unhittable, it is hard to see runs being scored in this one. The under is 6-2 in Phillies’ last eight inter-league road games. The under is 5-1 in the Astros’ last six overall.
