Minnesota is building momentum (4-0 L four games), and Rutgers (0-4 L four games) is not.
UM has a passing game that will shred the Rutgers secondary and a great complementary run game. Gophers QB Max Brosmer has been excellent during their four-game winning streak, passing for 895 yards (70.6% CMP%) with a 7:0 TD:INT ratio. The Scarlet Knights' pass defense has allowed an average of 310.3 passing yards per game over the last three contests, as Wisconsin's Braeden Locke (20-for-28 for 240 yards and one TD), UCLA's Ethan Garbers (32-for-38 for 383 yards and four TDs) and USC's Miller Moss (20-for-28 for 308 yards and two TDs) have had their way. The RU run defense (95th in rush yards allowed) will also have its hands full with Gophers RB Darius Taylor (126 carries for 644 yards and eight TDs) after his 131-yard performance last week.
Rutgers' own passing game has been inefficient (206.3 yards/game), and its run game has underachieved without a complementary air attack. The Knights are already without second-leading rusher Sam Brown (out for season) and star RB Kyle Monangai is questionable after leaving the USC game with a head injury. The Minnesota defense ranks 9th in total yards allowed, 12th in points allowed, 14th in passing yards allowed and 36th in rushing yards allowed. The Golden Gophers rank third nationally in forced turnovers (19), as well.
The extra week to prepare and get healthy will not help Rutgers turn the tide against Minnesota on Saturday. Bet on the Gophers to win and cover!
