Plenty of sidebar storylines for this "Manny Diaz Game" at Hard Rock, as Diaz returns to Miami for the first time since walking the plank (maybe not deservedly so) after the 2021 campaign it what can be charitably called a "booster coup" by the Hurricanes, who preferred favorite son Mario Cristobal to run the program. (Don't underestimate the political angles here, but we digress.) Manny's Duke squandered that game vs. SMU last week despite forcing six turnovers, but this defense is combative and opportunistic, and Diaz, a defensive strategist, will have a few tricks up his sleeve for Cam Ward. Though Miami is certainly dangerous with Ward, we remain a bit unconvinced about any Miami infallibility, especially considering the help received from the ACC replay officials at the death of the game in wins over VPI and Cal that could (and should) have gone the other way. The Blue Devils and QB Maalik Murphy can't be wasteful this week, but this 3-TD spread looks beyond the outer fringes. Play Duke
