Call this one the "Portal Classic" in Nashville as new faces abound on both sides. Mark Madsen's merry band of transfers at Cal look like they have been able to familiarize themselves with one another in rather short order. This brand-new bunch of Golden Bears has been built almost completely from the portal save frosh G Jeremiah Wilkinson (who's only getting about 10 minutes pg thus far). Of those additions, making the biggest immediate impacts are G Jovan Blacksher, Jr (17.5 ppg, via Grand Canyon) and wing Andrej Stojakovic (15.5 ppg, via nearby Stanford), but it's a true collective effort as Madsen has given double-digit minutes to ten players thus far and they have responded by scoring at an 89 ppg clip, recording handy wins that are better than they might look over improved Bakersfield and Cal Poly sides. Meanwhile, Vandy has only faced limited opposition (UMES and SE Mizzou) as new HC Mark Byington (via James Madison) has his own portal adds making an early mark, especially ex-BC PF Devin McGlockton (19 ppg) and ex-North Texas G Jason Edwards (18 ppg) among others. This, however, looks to be the Dores' first real test of the season, and if Cal scores at the same pace it can stay with Vandy and perhaps even steal one in Music City. Play Cal
