Alabama at Purdue
(NCAAB) Crimson Tide (ALA) vs. Boilermakers (PUR),
Point Spread: -2.00 | -112.00 Crimson Tide (ALA) (Away)
Result: Loss
What's this...no more Zach Edey at Purdue? A bit strange to see Purdue without Edey, now suiting up for the Indiana Pacers. The new 7-4 threat, frosh Daniel Jacobsen, appears out until after New Year's and perhaps the whole season with a broken leg that required surgery this week. Jacobsen had started the first two outings, scoring 13 in his debut game vs. Texas AM Corpus-Christi, before going down early last Friday vs. Northern Kentucky. Look for Will Berg, a still-developing 7-2 soph, to get more minutes moving forward. Still, for the time being this is going to be a Boilermakers team driven by its backcourt and Gs Fletcher Loyer (17 ppg) and Braden Smith (15 ppg) in particular. This will not strike fear into the second-ranked Crimson Tide, loaded with perimeter weapons. Don't lose the scent of the Tide after competitive wins over very capable Arkansas State and McNeese State, as Nate Oats still has a loaded roster led by G Mark "Jalen Brunson of the SEC" Sears at 18 ppg. The addition of 6-11 ex-Rutgers C Clifford Omoruyi provides the rim protector last year's Final Four Tide might have lacked, allowing 6-11 frontliner Grant Nelson to work in his natural stretch-4 role.
