Virginia vs St John's
(NCAAB) Red Storm (SJU) vs. Cavaliers (UVA),
Point Spread: -10.50 | -115.00 Red Storm (SJU) (Away)
Result: Win
Whoa, talk about taking a gut punch! St John's felt one last night at the Baha Mar vs. Baylor, as recurring Ft issues proved costly and opened the door for the Bears to steal the game on Jeremy Roach's long 3-poitn bomb at the double OT buzzer in a 99-98 instant classic. The turnaround is pretty quick in the Bahamas and the resilience of Rick Pitino's squad will be tested less than 24 hours alter, but evidence from yesterday is that Virginia, sand recently-retired HC Tony Bennett, is going to be in tough vs. top-notch opposition under interim Ron Sanchez. The earlier win over Villanova doesn't qualify; last night's 64-42 beatdown administered by Tennessee might be more indicative of what awaits the Wahoos as the season progresses (especially into the ACC). Pitino nonetheless must be liking what he is seeing, as aside from only 57% of FTs last night, the Red Storm hit 55% from the floor and 58% beyond the arc, with four DD scorers, including sixth-man sharpshooter wing Aaron Scott (via UNT) with 20 points.
