The Mets are only five games behind the Dodgers for the best record in the National League as we head into the weekend. New York didn't suffer a letdown after taking four of five from the Braves last weekend as they brutalized the Reds in a three-game set earlier in the week. Now, they get a Philadelphia team that was rolling along before getting stymied by Edward Cabrera and the Marlins Thursday afternoon. If it was Sandy Alcantara, that would be one thing but no one is comparing Cabrera with an elite starting pitcher. Now the Phillies have to deal with Max Scherzer, who is 8-2 with a 1.98 ERA and 120 whiffs over 95.2 innings of work this season. He's 2-1 against the Phillies this season with 23 strikeouts over 17 innings in three starts. Ranger Suarez has been okay but he's not on the level of Scherzer. Back the Mets at Citi Field for this contest.
