(MLB) NY Yankees vs. Boston,
Money Line: -165.00 NY Yankees (Away)
Result: Win
New York has sputtered offensively over the last month to six weeks since Matt Carpenter went down with a broken foot but they showed signs of life ove the weekend. The Yankees battered Corey Kluber Saturday and then tagged Luis Patino Sunday en route to putting up 10 runs in each contest. They enter this one winners of six of their previous eight games and opened a 5.5-game lead on Tampa Bay. Gerrit Cole has been rolling along since the beginning of August, posting a 2.03 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP, nine walks and 48 strikeouts over 40 innings in his last six starts. The fact that the offense has sputtered is the only reason the Yankees dropped four of those six outings. Meanwhile, Boston continues to flounder and Nick Pivetta is a prime example. He started the year 0-4 before winning eight of his next nine decisions. Since June 29, things have gone downhill as Pivetta is 1-6 with a 5.67 ERA, a 1.65 WHIP, 30 walks and 62 strikeouts over 66.2 innings in 13 starts. With Boston having nothing but pride and a potential spoiler role to play for, you have to back the Yankees in this contest as they try carrying the momentum of the weekend with them to Beantown.
