Cleveland clinched the AL Central title over the weekend and are locked in as the #3 seed in the postseason. That will put them against the third wild card team in the opening round of the AL playoffs. The Guardians send their ace to the hill as Shane Bieber takes the ball for the opening game of this set. Bieber has turned in 11 straight quality starts dating back to late July and since the start of August, he's 7-2 with a 1.79 ERA, a 0.839 WHIP, seven walks and 71 strikeouts over 70.1 innings in 10 outings. He beat Tampa Bay in his only start against them this season on July 29, throwing seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in a 4-1 Cleveland triumph. Meanwhile, ex-Guardian Corey Kluber is 0-2 with a 7.43 ERA, a 1.875 WHIP, one walk and eight strikeouts over 13.1 innings in his last three starts. Tampa Bay was drubbed in the back half of their four-game home set with Toronto and closes the regular season with nine straight on the road beginning here. The Rays don't have the weapons to keep up with Cleveland. Back Bieber and company to take this one at home.
