If there’s one thing we’ve seen over the last week to 10 days, it’s that the Cardinals have been unable to generate any kind of offensive production. St. Louis tallied only seven runs in their four-game set with the Braves and followed that up by getting blanked on back-to-back nights Friday and Saturday. The Redbirds did manage to put runs on the board Sunday but now have to contend with Aaron Nola, who is arguably as good as Zack Wheeler, who threw Friday, and markedly more proven than Kyle Gibson or Nick Nelson. Philadelphia has guys that can put runs on the board, especially on the road, where they are fifth in the majors with 4.90 runs per contest. Miles Mikolas is just 2-6 in his last 10 starts, in large part due to run support issues. The Cardinals have scored 40 runs in those 10 starts, an average of four per game, but a closer look shows that 30 of those runs came in three starts, while five others came in another game. That means the other six starts in that stretch saw St. Louis put up a total of five runs. You can’t win that way. Philadelphia beat Mikolas 5-3 on July 1 in the City of Brotherly Love. Look for them to repeat the feat with a triumph here in the Gateway City.
