I think he'll bring a much-needed confidence boost to this program and I like the Bulldogs to blowout their overmatched opponent on Opening night: "I love what this place stands for," Matta said at the Big East media day, "and I look at this place as a great opportunity to come in and try to rebuild something that Butler deserves."
Butler went 14-19 last year. Matta brought in some big time players via the transfer portal, including UNC center Manny Bates, Purdue gard Eric Hunter Jr. and Akron swingman Ali Ali (among others.)
New Orleans did go 18-14 last year, but it lost its "one, two punch" in Derek St. Hilaire (20.1 points per game) and Troy Green (16.6 ppg). They'll be hard to replace.
I like Matta to keep the foot on the gas from start to finish as he looks for a big win in his debut.
