The Memphis Tigers won their first game of the season but have had a layoff since that win. The Tigers outlasted Arkansas State 37-24 but that was way back on September 5. Memphis started slowly against Arkansas State and were down 14-7 after the first quarter. Memphis outscored them 30 to 10 the rest of the way. Quarterback Brady White threw for 280 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. The rushing attack was led by Rodrigues Clark with 105 yards and a TD. Sean Dykes had 10 catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns.

SMU took out Stephen F. Austin 50-7 last Saturday for their first win of the season. The Mustangs had a 29-0 at half the half and then outscored them 21-7 in the second half. Quarterback Shane Beuchele threw for 141 yards and two scores. The rushing attack was led by TJ McDaniel with 17 carries for 104 yards, and Ulysses Bentley added 104 yards and two scores on six carries.

SMU has a well-balanced attack but can also put up big numbers on the ground. Both teams didn't face elite competition in their first game but the fact that SMU played last week and can control the ball on the ground, I like the over a team that has only practiced for the past month.
