THE PROF’S UPPER-DECK BLOWOUT
(MLB) San Francisco vs. Washington,
Money Line: -146.00 San Francisco (Away)
Result: Loss
The Nationals are at home to take on the San Franciso Giants in a three-game set. The Nationals come into the game, losers of six of their last ten. The Giants on the other hand have won eight of their last 11 and have closed to within two games of the NL West-leading LA Dodgers. They will look to put pressure on the Dodgers by sending Alex Wood to the mound. He is 4-3 with a 4.53 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP this season in 14 appearances, 10 starts. On the road, he has a 2.96 ERA of 2.96 and a 1.59 ERA at night. The Giants are 7-3 in his 10 starts. Washington has been bad this season but has taken two of the first three games played between these two teams. They will look to turn things around by sending Jake Irvin to the mound. He is 2-5 this year with a 4.96 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP in 13 starts. Irvin has a 4.97 ERA during home games. In July, he posted a 5.79 ERA.
The Giants have won seven of nine while Washington has dropped four of their last five. Wood doesn't go long into games but he has allowed just one run in his last 8.2 innings. Irvin has posted a 5.79 ERA in his three starts this month and the Nats have lost nine of his 13 starts. The Giants are making a run at the Dodgers and another win here puts the pressure on.
