The Philadelphia Phillies play the second game of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. St. Louis took game 1 2-0. The Cardinals had lost five of the last six before yesterday. The Philadelphia Phillies couldn’t get the offense going yesterday, but for the season they are first in on-base percentage, 6th in batting average, 8th in slugging percentage, and 12th in runs scored. Their pitching is not bad either, ranking 9th in ERA, 13th in WHIP at 1.21. They will look to even the season by sending Cristopher Sanchez to the mound. He is 0-0 with a 4.09 ERA, 16 strikeouts, and a 1.18 WHIP. The Cardinals offense has been rolling this season, ranking second in both batting average and on-base percentage, third in runs scored, and sixth in slugging percentage. Their pitching has let them down as they rank 18th in WHIP at 1.31, and 30th in ERA at 5.24. Miles Mikolas gets today’s start. He is 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA, four strikeouts, and a 2.00 WHIP. Philadelphia has won eight of its last 13, and the Phillies have won 11 of the last 15 versus St. Louis. The Cardinals have lost five of the last seven and are 1-4 in the last five played in April. St. Louis is without Ivan Herrera, who is leading the Cards in home runs and RBI. The offenses are pretty even but the Phillies have an edge on the mound. I expect the Phillies bats to get going today against Milolas.
