Atlanta enters this game after a very emotional day where Atlanta was leading game 1 of the double header against their rival the New York Mets before the Mets had a 6 run inning and took the lead and then Atlanta took the lead back before the Mets regained the lead. After that Atlanta had to focus on winning game 2 to make the playoffs. Atlanta won that game and then starting drinking and celebrating (even celebrating with the Mets) Atlanta then had to make the long trip from Atlanta to San Diego.

San Diego got to sit at home and watch the Mets vs Braves games as they prepare for this series. San Diego went 11-4 leading into the playoffs with a loss against Houston and two losses against the Dodgers before losing the final game of the season which was a meaningless game for the Padres but meant a lot to Arizona. Michael King is starting for San Diego he has been great for the Padres allowing 2 or fewer earned runs in 18 of his last 20 starts.

This is a horrible spot for the Braves and a great spot for the Padres.
