Money Line: 163.00 Cleveland (Away)
Result: Loss
The Guardians are coming into this game off of a 7-3 loss against the Astros in their last game but they have not been bad in their recent games as they have still won 4 of their last 7 games. They have been getting much better recently as they are now just 1 game behind the Twins in 1st of the AL Central and even their offense has been starting to heat up more as they have scored at least 5 runs in 4 of their last 7 games. They are going up against an Astros team that is coming off of that comeback win against the Guardians but they have still lost 3 of their last 5 games as their pitching has been very inconsistent recently. Gavin Williams is starting for the Guardians here and he is 1-2 with a 3.35 ERA this season. He is just a rookie but has been pitching very well this season as he has not allowed more than 4 earned runs in any of his starts, and the 2 starts he did allow 4 runs were both in his 1st 3 starts of the season. He has been improving in each start over his last 5 straight as he has allowed less runs in each start since then and is coming off of one where he allowed no runs in 4 innings pitched. He has also allowed just 2 earned runs or less in his last 3 starts now and has also pitched very well in his 2 road starts this season, including his last one in the state of Texas as he only allowed 2 runs against the Rangers in 5 innings. The Astros offense has already been struggling this season as they have been very inconsistent from game to game and they are going to struggle to score runs here with how well Williams has been pitching recently. Framber Valdez is starting for the Astros here and he is 8-7 with a 3.29 ERA this season. He has been a very good starter for the Astros this season but he has been unraveling recently as he has been awful in the month of July. He just allowed 6 earned runs in his last start which was also at home and he has allowed at least 4 earned runs in each of his last 3 as well as 4 of his last 5 starts. The Guardians do not have a great offense but their offense has definitely been improving over the last few weeks and they will get after Valdez for some runs here with how poorly he has been pitching recently. The Astros bullpen has not been that great recently either so the Guardians will have the advantage with their pitching here and they are going to bounce back in this game. The Guardians will win this game.
