The Astros are coming into this game playing very well in their recent games. They have won 4 of their last 5 games as they are starting to heat up again and their pitching has been very good in that span as they have allowed just 3 runs or less in 4 of their last 5 games. They are going up against a Yankees team that has not been playing well recently as they have lost 4 of their last 6 games and their offense has not been great in those as they have scored 3 runs or less in 4 of those 6 games. Justin Verlander is starting for the Astros here and he is 6-5 with a 3.15 ERA this season. He has been pitching very well in his recent starts as he has allowed just 1 earned run or less in each of his last 3 starts and has also allowed just 2 earned runs or less in 6 of his last 7 starts. He has also been pitching better on the road as he has allowed 2 earned runs or less in each of his last 2 road starts and that includes his last road start which was against the Yankees, a game he pitched 6 shutout innings in. The Yankees offense has been struggling all season and they have not been scoring many runs recently either, Verlander will shut them down here as he has pitched very well against the Yankees over the last few seasons. Nestor Cortes is starting for the Yankees here and he is 5-2 with a 5.16 ERA this season. He has not been awful this season but he has also been consistently allowing runs in his starts as he has allowed at least 2 earned runs in each of his last 10 starts and he has not pitched in a game since May 30 either as he has been out with an injury. He struggled to keep the Astros from scoring last season in his start against them and this is not the team he wants to see in his 1st start back from an injury, especially with the Astros offense heating up now. The Astros are also very close to catching the Rangers in 1st place of the AL West so they are going to be motivated to beat up on the Yankees here like they usually do. The Astros will win this game.
