The Marlins are coming into this game not playing well recently as they have lost 3 of their last 4 as well as 5 of their last 7 games. They are coming off of a win in their last game but their offense has been awful in that span as they have only scored 2 runs or less in their last 3 losses and even in their last win yesterday they only scored 3 runs in the game. They are going up against a Padres team that will be hungry to bounce back from that loss at home and they did win the 1st game of this series 6-2 already so they will be motivated with a chance to win this series at home where they have played much better all season while the Marlins have been worse on the road. Sandy Alcantara is starting for the Marlins here and he is 6-10 with a 4.11 ERA this season. He has not been great in his recent starts as he has allowed at least 3 earned runs in 2 of his last 3 starts and he has also been much worse on the road. When starting on the road, he has allowed at least 3 runs in 5 of his last 6 starts and the Padres offense has not been awful recently as they have been starting to score more runs now, they will get to Alcantara for some runs here with how bad he has been on the road. Seth Lugo is starting for the Padres here and he is 4-6 with a 3.92 ERA this season. He has been pitching very well all season and even in his recent starts he has allowed just 2 earned runs or less in each of his last 2 starts as well as 5 of his last 6 starts. He has also been very good at home as he has allowed 2 earned runs or less in 3 of his last 4 home starts and he has also been pitching much better in his last 2 starts since having a bad start against the Dodgers at the beginning of August. He will continue to pitch well here and shut down the Marlins offense that has not been scoring many runs recently anyway. The Padres will win this game at home.
