Southern Miss is coming into this game playing in some higher scoring games recently but they are coming off of a low scoring 17-13 loss in their last game. They have had 2 of their last 3 games see 80 points total or more but they have also seen 2 of their last 4 games have 30 points total or less. Their 2 high scoring games were against Texas State who has a very good offense but a very bad defense and their other high scoring game was against Arkansas State who also has a very bad defense. They have played in lower scoring games against better defenses though like in their 21-3 loss to Tulane and their 17-13 loss to Old Dominion in their last game. They are going up against a South Alabama side that has not been in many low scoring games this season but their defense has been good as they have held opponent to 7 points or less in 2 of their last 4 games. South Alabama has a very good defense that has only been averaging around 22 points allowed per game. Southern Miss is going to have a tough time with their weaker offense scoring points on this South Alabama defense and they are going to try and establish the run game as it has been a lot more successful for them than the passing game. South Alabama is also going to try and run the ball though as Southern Miss has had an awful run defense all season so South Alabama will be attacking them on the ground all game and continuing to run the ball with any lead they have so they can eat up some clock. These two have also met 3 times with the 1st meeting seeing 53 points while the last 2 have seen 47 points or less and the only time Southern Miss has ever come to Mobile they only scored 7 points just 2 years ago. Both of these teams are going to lean on their defenses coming out of the bye week and there will be a focus on running the ball for each team. This is going to be a lower scoring and more defensive game that stays under the total.
