Sam Houston is coming into this game with a 0-7 record overall this season but they have played a lot better in their recent games than their record indicates. They have been playing much closer games against Conference USA opponents as they have lost their last 4 straight and other than 1 bad 27-13 loss on the road to New Mexico State, they have been keeping their games close with a chance to win. They lost at home to Jacksonville State in OT as well as losing to FIU at home in OT last week but they also lost a close 21-16 game on the road against Liberty who is the undefeated team in the conference at 8-0 this season. Sam Houston is going to be hungry to pick up a win at home here and they are going up against a UTEP team that is only 2-6 this season as they have been struggling just as much. They did beat FIU on the road but their other win came against an FCS team while their last 5 straight losses were all by double digits. UTEP has also lost their starting QB so they have been trying to plus in backups recently and their offense has suffered with 2 of their last 3 games only seeing 10 points scored or less. Sam Houston has a good defense that will cause problems for UTEP's offense. UTEP also has an awful run defense so Sam Houston will be able to run the ball efficiently since UTEP is allowing over 5 yards per rushing attempt and that is going to open up the passing game for Sam Houston which has been improving in their last few games as Keegan Shoemaker has been much more efficient throwing the ball.
