West Virginia is coming into this game with a 2-1 record this season but they are returning less than 10% of their team from last year as they are in the 1st year of a new head coach. They still need a lot of time to get in a rhythm with their new head coach and all the new faces on the team as they have not been playing great in their first 3 games. They managed to beat Jacksonville State at home by double digits in their last game but they also struggled to beat Missouri State at home by 8 points and even dropped a game against Monmouth there with an 8 point loss. Now they are at a neutral location for this game but it is still going to be their 1st game this season playing away from home after 3 straight home games to start the year. They are going up against an SMU team that is 3-1 this season and returning a little over half of their team from last year after a bad season. They picked up some good players in the transfer portal as well though and they have shown signs of improvement already as they have been playing well in these first few games. They won their first 3 games of the season at home, all by double digits, before losing in their last game there by 13 to a ranked Texas A&M team. They are also playing their 1st game of the season away from home here but they have played much better in their 4 games and they are going to be hungry to bounce back against a West Virginia team dealing with so many new changes this year.
