Rutgers is coming into this game with a 1-0 record this season after beating Howard 44-7 in their 1st game of the season. Howard plays in the FCS so they are not a quality opponent, but Rutgers dominated the game in every aspect. They racked up over 200 yards rushing, Kyle Monangai getting 150+ himself, and Athan Kaliakmanis also played very well in his 1st start for the team. He only threw for 147 yards but he had 3 TDs with no interceptions and did not need to throw much with their success on the ground. The defense was also great as they only allowed 7 points along with 116 passing yards and less than 150 yards on the ground. Their defense has been a shining aspect of this team since Schiano got there as they have dropped 10+ points in points allowed per game since his arrival, so defense is going to be a big part of their team this season as well. They are going up against an Akron team that is 0-1 after losing their 1st game of the season to Ohio State who is one of the better teams in the nation, but they are still one of the worst teams in the MAC as they went 2-10 last season. They lost to Ohio State 52-6 with under 150 yards passing and under 70 yards rushing as well. Rutgers is no Ohio State, but they still have a Big 10 defense that is going to make this game very difficult for Akron to move the ball on offense. Akron only allowed 170 rushing yards in the game, but they were averaging 5.2 yards per carry against them so Rutgers is going to have many different ways to attack this defense which will allow the game to get away from Akron.
