Vanderbilt is coming into this game with a 3-2 record this season and they are coming off of a monumental win in their last game against Alabama. They beat Alabama at home 40-35 and normally this would be a let down spot, but not for this group led by Diego Pavia. Pavia came over from New Mexico State who won 10 games last season as Jerry Kill turned that team around. Both Kill and Pavia came over from New Mexico State for this season and brought quite a bit of talent from that team as well. They are going up against a Kentucky team that is 3-2 this season and they are coming off of their own upset win in their last game. They are coming off of their bye week but they won on the road against Ole Miss going into the break. The bye week was a good chance for Kentucky to settle down from that big win, but their offense has still struggled in every game this season. They scored 31 points against Southern Miss and 41 points against Ohio, but they have only scored 38 points total between their 3 SEC games this season. Their defense has been very good at both stopping the run and slowing down the passing game, but Vanderbilt has a good run game as well as a true dual threat quarterback in Pavia which is something that Kentucky has not had to defend against this year. Pavia and company are going to find ways to move the ball on the ground here and that will help open up the passing game for them. Vandy also has a good run defense themselves, averaging 114.4 rushing yards allowed per game and 3.7 yards per carry. Kentucky does not have a strong passing game so they are going to rely on running the ball here, but if they cannot run the ball well on this defense, that will disrupt their game plan. Kentucky's defense may slow down this Vandy offense, but they are not going to keep them from scoring all game and Kentucky will struggle to move the ball on offense themselves. Kentucky is not a team that has been scoring a lot of points and blowing opponents out either, especially in these conference games. Vanderbilt will cover the spread in this game.
