Jacksonville State move into Conference USA under coach Rich Rodriguez as they went 9-2 last season. This team has a high powered offense led by an experienced and veteran QB in Zion Webb. They have a good ground attack headed by lead rushers like Anwar Lewis and Malik Jackson that can stretch the field. They were able to improve on their offense and defense in the portal and retain some depth and key talent. Their defense wasn't bad last season and should improve this season as this team is a well coached team. Utep was inconsistent last season and struggled with aspects of the game such as the passing game, stopping the run, and turnovers to name a few. The team had high expectations but fizzled out near the end losing four of their last six games. This road game is their first game of the season and will be a tough travel spot for them, as well as adjusting to the changes under a new offensive coordinator and transfers that need time to transition to a new program. The home crowd will be lit for the Gamecocks as this game is a big deal being it's first ever game in the FBS Division, so they will want to prove something in this game. Take the dog with the points with something to prove.
