(NCAAB) Alabama vs. Connecticut,
Point Spread: 11.50 | -104.00 Alabama (Away)
Result: Loss
Is Alabama the team that can slow down Connecticut, is the question in this game. UConn has been the team to beat this season as they execute everything well, have dominated and covered against everyone in this tournament, and have Bigs and elite players that are playing their best ball. The discussion will not be about UConn but how can Alabama compete in this game. Alabama has the ability to shoot from anywhere on the court which could pose some headaches for UConn in this game. Their defense hasn’t been great all season but in this tournament, it has tightened up quite a bit. They have to be mindful of not turning over the ball and getting their rebounds because UConn has held teams to 52 points or less in this tournament. However, UConn may struggle with the Tide in this game because it will be like trying to contain lightning in a bottle. They certainly have contained everyone else up to this point, but the Tide could be the challenge they haven’t seen all season. Alabama have the firepower to stay in this game as they love to run and gun teams. However, UConn will control the pace and Alabama have to be mindful of this as they struggle more with slow paced teams. The Tide will try to speed up the Huskies throughout the game and this is where they can make more of their shots.

Even though the Huskies dominated Illinois in that game, they did not win the second half with their 3 point shooting. Those 30 points plus were all in the paint which could be a concern for the Huskies. UConn are only 3-2 against the spread this season after a game where they made only 20 percent or less of their three point shots. Alabama has been decent in non conference games this season against the spread, covering in 11 out of 17. Alabama has a shot to cover this spread if Sears and the other top players start making all their shots, and if they can put UConn behind early in the game, then they could stay in this game. Alabama has to play their best game on both sides of the ball to have a chance and they certainly have the motivation to do so. Alabama also has players that can take mid range jump shots so they need to pepper UConn from all spots on the floor and put the points up quickly. UConn is very good at defending the three and the rim. The Tide are athletic enough to keep up with UConn and they are very good at rebounding off the glass which helps them get second chances. If this were a regular season game, it would be more competitive and the line would not be as large. There is value in this line in taking the underdog, a line that seems a little too inflated based on what the Huskies are doing in this tournament. UConn should win the game but the Tide will give them a scare and cover this game.

Best bet: take the points with Alabama.
