The Mean Green played the Golden Gophers tough a few days ago, winning straight-up in the Barn as 2.5-point underdogs. They held Minnesota to .894 points per possession and 9-of-25 shooting on two-pointers in the 54-51 victory. Their rugged defense (45th nationally in defensive efficiency) and slow tempo (360th in adjusted tempo) make them a nightmarish opponent.
McNeese State lost by eight to Alabama, but was down by 21 points in the second half, so that final score is deceiving. The Cowboys shoot a low percentage from three-point range (30.0%), rank 225th in offensive rebounding and 359th in assists per game. They aren't sharing the ball effectively, which isn't good team basketball if you ask me! Part of the problem is the loss of Shahada Wells, who had a high usage rate and a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. He could knock down the three-ball, too (39%).
Bet on the Mean Green, who have a higher offensive efficiency rating than McNeese as well, to cover the 4.5-point spread on Tuesday night.
