I like this Orange team much more than recent iterations, as I believe they picked up a nice portal piece in center Eddie Lampkin Jr. (12.6 PPG, 8.2 RPG and 3.6 APG) to go with star guard J.J. Starling (21.4 PPG), junior forward Chris Bell (15.2 PPG) and terrific true frosh Donnie Freeman (9.8 PPG and 8.6 RPG). The Cuse showed some guts this past week in Brooklyn vs. Texas Tech and Texas, specifically with their doggedness to get to the free-throw line (46 FT attempts in the two games).
In short, they are too well-rounded offensively (57th in offensive efficiency) and relentless on the glass (26th-ranked rebounding team) for Cornell, which is in a bit of rebuild. The Big Red struggle defensively (332nd in scoring defense and 307th in defensive efficiency) and will be overmatched on the boards (234th in total rebounds per game). With losses to La Salle and Robert Morris, Cornell isn't the caliber of underdog capable of keeping pace with Syracuse in a true road game.
Bet on the Orange to crush Big Red, covering the 9.5-point spread!
