On paper, there doesn’t appear to be a ton of difference between these two teams. But look closer and you’ll see why the Panthers are 5-26 and the Mocs are 14-16. FAM outscores PVAM by four points a game in SWAC play and gives up four more per game. But the biggest differences are in 3-point shooting. The Mocs knock down nine 3-pointers per game compared to just six for the Panthers. They also make them at a higher percentage. And, since FAM shoots almost half of their shots from beyond the arc, the fact that PVAM allows opponents to shoot 36% from deep is likely to be an issue. They also allow foes to shoot 51% overall, the second-worst mark in the country. FAM also has a huge advantage in rebounding, especially when it comes to 2nd chance points. These teams played just once in the regular season, with the Mocs picking up an 11-point road win as a 2.5-point dog. Finally, Florida A&M is the best ATS team in the country, going 21-6 ATS overall and 15-3 in conference play. They’ve been a favorite only five times this year but they’ve covered the number in all five.
