The slumping Giants are slumping no more winning seven of their last eight games. Some of their veteran hitters, including Hunter Pence, Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford, are picking up their games. San Francisco is averaging six runs per game during its last eight games.
I like the Giants' chances a lot in this game, too, with a pitching matchup of Johnny Cueto versus Anibal Sanchez.
The right-handed Cueto isn't elite anymore, but he's still a good pitcher. Only once in his last seven starts has he allowed more than than three earned runs. The Tigers' power comes from the right side. So they are much weaker versus righties than lefties. Detroit has a winning record against southpaw starters, but are nine games below .500 when facing a righthanded starter.
Sanchez has been on a downturn path for three years now. His ERA in 2015 was 4.99. It was 5.87 last year. This season, Sanchez has a 7.28 ERA and was demoted to the minors. He's pitched decently his last couple of starts, but I don't see that continuing.
