The Nationals were fortunate the last time Jake Irvin was scheduled to pitch. They got to skip his turn.

But now Irvin is slated to start today, pitching for the first time in 11 days. The Marlins are the lucky beneficiaries looking to go 11-3 in their last 14 games.

Irvin is 1-3 with a 5.81 ERA and 1.68 WHIP.

Washington's bullpen is terrible, too, with the fourth-highest ERA in the majors. They lack a dependable closer among other things. The Nationals' bullpen also carries a high fatigue rating.

Braxton Garrett gets the start for Miami. He has a 2.25 ERA in his past six starts.

Garrett draws a Nationals offense that ranks 29th in homers, 23rd in runs and 23rd in OPS.

Given their bad pitching and lack of power, it's no surprise Washington has the second-worst record in the National League.
