The Orioles have lost four in a row. But Clay Holmes just woke the Orioles up. He did that by hitting Heston Kjerstad in the head with a 97 mph fastball in the ninth inning during the Yankees' 4-1 Friday victory. That beaning, although probably accidental, brought out Orioles manager Brandon Hyde and emptied the benches and bullpen.
Given that motivation and a pitching matchup of Luis Gil vs Grayson Rodriguez, I like the Orioles to get their revenge today.
Rodriguez is 11-3. That includes a 5-1 home record with a 2.27 ERA.
Gil has cooled off considerably. He's given up 17 earned runs in his last four starts spanning 16 1/3 innings. Gil has allowed a home run in each of those last four starts. Perhaps Gill has hit the wall having pitched a career-high 96 1/3 innings, which is 67 innings more than he has ever pitched in the majors.
The Orioles buried Gill when they faced him last month in a 17-5 victory. Gil couldn't get out of the second inning after giving up seven earned runs.
(Editor's note: Stephen Nover is 26-11 on his last 37 premium baseball plays, 19-8 on his last 27 Canadian Football League plays and 8-2 this month on his premium WNBA plays with his WNBA Total of the Month going today along with two premium baseball plays, including his Underdog Special.)
