Minnesota is in the argument for best team in the WNBA right now at 13-3 and fresh off a 94-89 upset win against the Liberty in the Commissioner's Cup Trophy championship game this past Tuesday night in New York.
Dallas is 3-13. That's the worst record in the league. The Wings have dropped 11 straight games.
I like the Wings here - and I haven't lost my mind. This is the letdown spot of the year for the Lynx.
The Lynx have felt disrespected all season. They went to New York and knocked off the star-studded Liberty to capture the Commissioner's Cup, which means more to the players than the media since it's not a regular-season game. There's a half-million prize pool in the Commissioner's Cup. This isn't chump change to WNBA players, who don't make big money like the NBA players do.
Now, though, the Lynx have to travel to Texas for this early-start game still on Cloud Nine against an opponent with the worst mark in the league. It's simply just a terrible situational spot for the Lynx, who can't help but feel overconfident.
The Wings have better talent than their record shows. They also have their two top scorers, Arike Ogwbowale and Natasha Howard, healthy. Ogwbowale is the No. 2 scorer in the WNBA averaging 23.9 points. Howard averages 18.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She's one of the better forwards in the league. Howard will be playing in just her fifth game of the season.
Given those two stars and being at home in an unusual early time weekday start, the Wings would be dangerous. Given the monster letdown factor the Lynx face, it wouldn't shock me if Dallas sprung the outright upset.
(Editor's note: Stephen Nover is one of the top WNBA handicappers in North America going 23-12 on his premium/free plays this season for 66 percent, beating the league for the fourth time in five years. Stephen has his first WNBA 100-Dime play - his strongest - of the season going Thursday in addition to this free play. Stephen also is sizzling in baseball where he is 13-4 on his last 17 premium plays and in the Canadian Football League where he is 17-7. Don't miss any of Stephen's plays, all of which are guaranteed to win.)
