Perhaps no team is looking forward to All-Star break more than Texas. The Rangers are in disarray losing 21 of their last 24, including their last seven. They are on the verge of being swept here by the hot Angels and I want to take advantage of that situation.
This is higher juice than I normally recommend laying - especially on the road - but circumstances make this a value play.
The Angels are playing great. The Rangers are playing horrible. Given that this is the last day before the teams are idle for four days I could see Texas mailing this one in. Certainly the Rangers are at low ebb. Not only are these teams miles apart in how they are playing, but the Rangers are way down mentally. They have lost six in a row to the Angels.
The Angels are 25-9 since June 6, the best record in baseball during this span. They have won their last six games and are 8-1 the past nine times as a road favorite of being minus $1.51 to minus $2.00.
Texas has the worst winning percentage in the majors at .404. The Rangers are 18 games below .500.
The Angels are swinging hot bats averaging more than six runs per game during their last 19 games while batting above .300 during this span. They are facing journeyman, homer-prone Scott Baker, who only is in Texas' rotation due to the Rangers' many starting pitcher injuries.
Angels starter Tyler Skaggs has a 2.96 ERA in seven road starts this year. He's gone at least six innings in all but two of his 14 starts.
