Result: Win
The Twins have turned things around a bit heading into All-Star break winning four of their last five. The Twins are underdogs here, but have a starting pitcher and bullpen advantage.
Right-hander Phil Hughes goes for Minnesota. He's 6-2 with a 2.29 ERA in nine road starts. He pitched well in his last start blanking the Mariners for 7 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts. He's gone at least six innings in 14 of his last 15 starts. The Twins have won seven of the last nine times when Hughes has been a road 'dog. Colorado is 9-27 in its last 36 games against a righty.
Southpaw Brett Anderson makes his first start since April 12. He's been out all this time with a broken left index finger. Stamina could be a problem for Anderson, especially pitching in high altitude. The Twins are familiar with Anderson from his days with Oakland while the Rockies are not acquainted with Hughes. Colorado has one of the worst bullpens in baseball. The Twins are 43-50 on the season, but have played .500 ball against lefties this season.
Colorado is favored in large part because of home field. However, the Rockies are just 8-18 in their last 26 games at Coors Field and have a worse record on the season than the Twins do.
(Editor's note: Stephen Nover has his guaranteed Chalk Play of the Week and a Totals Destroyer going today in addition to this free selection. Stephen is unbeaten on his plays during the past two days.)
