Jake Peavy and Wily Peralta are at different stages of their respective careers. Peralta is an emerging star, still underrated despite ranking right up with the win leaders. Peralta is in top form, too, going 4-0 with a 1.71 ERA since July 9.

Peavy is a power pitcher, who was dominant when he pitched at Petco Park for the Padres. Now he's 33 and been battered by injuries. He is past his prime and can not sustain seven good innings any more. Peavy has lost four in a row and has a 5.28 ERA during his past 17 starts.

Both the Giants and Brewers are good teams. But the Brewers play in the stronger division and have won Peralta's last six home starts against opponents with a winning record, while the Giants have dropped 19 of their last 26 versus above .500 foes.
