Result: Win
Boston has a losing home record and a losing mark against lefties. The Angels have lost the fewest games in the majors. They are 6-2 the past eight times they've played at Fenway Park and are going against Brandon Workman, who has yet to win at home this season. The Red Sox have dropped his six last starts.
But to get fully behind the superior Angels we have to have faith in C.J. Wilson, who is having a rough year. The southpaw, though, showed definite signs of turning things around in his last start holding the Phillies to two runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings during a 7-2 win this past Tuesday.
After that performance, Angels manager Mike Scioscia was moved to say he thought Wilson had turned the corner. The Phillies are not a good offensive team, but neither are the Red Sox. They rank either 23rd or 24th in runs, batting average and homers. The Angels, by contrast, rank No. 2 in rush, fifth in batting average and eighth in homers. Mike Trout and Josh Hamilton have strong histories at Fenway Park.
Wilson has a good history, too, versus the Red Sox with a 5-2 mark and 2.73 ERA in nine career starts. The Red Sox have lost seven of their past 10 home matchups and have lost 15 of the last 21 times as a home 'dog.
The Angels have won 74 percent of the time in the past 69 games when playing a team with a sub .500 record. The Angels also have won 12 of their past 18 road contests.
