The visitors send rookie Chi Chi Gonzalez to the mound, who in his second start of his career pitched a complete game shutout to beat the Royals. So far Gonzalez is 2-0 and has not given up a run in 14 2/3's innings of work. Gonzalez has undoubtedly been great so far, but there's no question that this now sets up as a classic "letdown" spot for the young hurler. His counterpart today is Scott Kazmir who is just 2-4, but with a respectable 3.14 ERA. Kazmir will certainly be focused today, he's lost four straight decisions: "I don't actually look at that stuff," Kazmir said of his recent struggles. "I look at the pitches I made, the hits I gave up. I've just got to be better out there. I will be next time." And note that this is actually a spot in which Kazmir has dominated in, while just 1-1 in front of the home town crowd so far this year, he's posted a tiny 1.65 ERA. In my opinion, this is the very definition of "great line value," play on the ATHLETICS.
