This is a 6* play on the San Francisco Giants.
Despite their recent struggles, the Giants have a big opportunity today to ensure that they go into the break in first-place and with what I feel to be the superior starter backing them, I look for the home side to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night. San Francisco will also be eager to atone for yesterday's lacklustre 2-0 setback. The Giants send Madison Bumgarner (9-7, 3.36 ERA) to the hill; Bumgarner, like his team, has struggled of late, he's 0-3 with a 7.50 ERA since beating Arizona 4-1 back on June 22nd. I think the Giants' veteran bounces back here though, he's 2-1 with minuscule 1.02 ERA in his last seven matchups against the Diamondbacks and owns an almost non-existent 0.89 ERA in his last three home starts against Arizona. The visitors counter with Vidal Nuno (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who will make his second start for the Diamondbacks since being acquired from the Yankees last weekend. Nuno looked good in his first start, going seven scoreless frames while striking out a career-high seven vs. Miami on Tuesday. Nuno though would receive a no-decision as his team was unable to plate any runs. I give Bumgarner the slight nod on the bump in this matchup and the Giants a big nod in the motivational factor department and that's more than enough to tip the scales in their favor; lay the price with confidence.
