This is a 10* "TOTAL ART OF THE GAME" on the UNDER between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Washington Nationals.
A couple of division leaders go head to head to open the second half and when the smoke clears at the end of this one, I expect the total to sneak below the posted number. The Brewers backed their way into the break in losing 11 of their last 13, a 6.5 game lead was cut to just one before the Midsummer Classic. Milwaukee exploded for an 11-2 win over St. Louis on Sunday (I had the Brewers in that one), but I feel will have its hands full today with Stephen Strasburg (7-6, 3.46 ERA) who leads the National League with 10.73 K's per nine innings. Note that Strasburg is 1-0 with a very respectable 2.21 ERA during a three-start stretch; and note that Strasburg has been particularly dominant in front of the home town crowd this year where he's 6-0 with a tiny 2.13 ERA over his last ten, posting 87 K's to nine walks spanning 67 2/3's innings. The break couldn't have come at a better time for Kyle Lohse who would drop his final two decisions, but he'll look to get back on track here against a team that he's enjoyed plenty of success against in the past going 5-1 with a 3.73 ERA in ten starts against the Nats from 2008-13. So while the Nationals are also coming off a high-scoring 10-3 win over Philadelphia on Sunday, I believe all signs point to a lower-scoring pitchers duel in the opener of this three game set. Play on the UNDER.
