This is a 10* ART OF WAR on the Detroit Tigers.
I think the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner and his team are well worth the price of admission in this spot. Max Scherzer (13-3, 3.27 ERA) gets the call for the visitors; Scherzer has regained his form after a slow start to the year, he's been particularly sharp of late by going 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA with 56 K's over 47 2/3's innings spanning his last seven starts, most recently he held the White Sox to one run off five hits over seven frames in a 7-2 win on Wednesday (note that Scherzer has long owned the Evil Empire as well, he's 6-1 with a very respectable 3.12 ERA in seven starts vs. it). The Tigers come to town off a three-game sweep of Colorado; one other player to keep your eyes on today is Detroit slugger Miguel Cabrera, who is hitting .424 with 10 dingers and 23 RBIs over his last 16 games in the Bronx. New York returns home off a satisfying 8-7 win at Boston in the Sunday nighter, suffice it to say I think this sets up as a classic letdown spot. The home side counters with Brandon McCarthy (3-0, 2.55 ERA), who has been hit-or-miss all season, while he earned a 12-11 win at Texas on Tuesday, the right-hander would allow four runs off nine hits over six frames. I'm throwing all of the other factors and stats out the window for this selection, I'm basing it entirely on the starting pitching, I expect Scherzer to come in with a chip on his shoulder and to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night; play on DETROIT.
