Result: Win
This is an 8* SITUATIONAL PITCHING MISMATCH on the San Diego Padres.
Another clear pitching mismatch tonight, I look for the Friars to match a season-high five-game win streak with another big effort in front of the home town crowd. Last night's 4-1 win was the Padres 10th win in their last 13 games and 14th in 18 home contests. San Diego sends Ian Kennedy (8-10, 3.51 ERA) to the hill; while Kennedy hasn't earned a victory in his last two starts, he's sure pitched well enough to, he's given up just three runs over 11 frames, most recently yielding two over six frames in a 2-1 setback in Pittsburgh on Friday. A date vs. the last place Rockies is just what the doctor ordered for Kennedy, he's 3-1 with a very respectable 2.30 ERA in his last seven starts vs. them and 1-1 with a tiny 1.89 ERA over his last three against Colorado. The punchless visitors counter with Tyler Matzek (2-7, 5.32 ERA0 who is 1-4 with a horrible 6.09 ERA over his last six starts, giving up three runs off four hits and a season-high five walks over five frames in his team's 5-3 setback in Arizona on Friday. Not surprisingly, the Rockies are just 2-9 in his starts. And unfortunately for Matzek, he's already been destroyed by San Diego, he threw opposite Kennedy last month and would get shelled for five runs off eight hits with four walks. Matzek is in trouble, note that Colorado will once again be without the services of sluggers Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer because of injury. A plethora of favorable factors collide for the home side, I have no problem at all laying this price; play on SAN DIEGO.
