The Toronto Blue Jays gave us a nice Game of the Week winner when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 last night, and I like the Jays to complete the sweep of this four-game home-and-home series tonight.
J.A. Happ (7-3, 3.70 ERA) will take the ball for Toronto. He's 3-0 with a 1.56 ERA in three career starts against the Phillies and he has the current members limited to a .136 batting average, although admittedly over a small sample of 22 at bats. Happ has surrendered 10 runs through 12 innings in his last two starts but he's generally pitched well on the road this year with a 3.02 ERA and a .207 batting average against over 47 2/3 innings of work.
The Phillies turn to Aaron Nola (5-5, 2.98 ERA) who is 2-4 with a 3.79 ERA in six home starts on the year. Nola struggled in his one career start versus Toronto last year, giving up three runs on four hits and four walks in five innings of a no-decision. He'll have to deal with two red hot batters in Edwin Encarnacion who is 9-for-20 during his five-game hitting streak and Josh Donaldson who is 13-for-31 during his eight-game streak.
The Phillies have a major-leagues worst batting average of .229 on the year and its an even worse .226 against southpaws. Blue Jays are 9-1 in the last 10 meetings in Philadelphia and are looking good to take down another contest at Citizens Bank Park.
