Point Spread: -1.50 | -147.00 LA Dodgers (Away)
Result: Loss
Play: Los Angeles Dodgers
Rating: 8*
The Los Angeles Dodgers traveled to Pittsburgh on the back of six consecutive wins. They've now dropped two straight to the Bucs, but I like them to bounce back Sunday night. This is obviously a lot of juice to pay for a run-line play, but with a huge pitching mismatch I think the price is more than warranted.
Chad Kuhl takes the ball for Pittsburgh as he'll make his MLB debut. The 23 year old has compiled a 33-16 record and 2.79 ERA in 81 starts over four seasons in the minors, but his call up to the big leagues could have come at a better time. Kuhl has posted a 6.75 ERA with a 2.2 WHIP through four starts this month, and he'll face a Dodgers team desperate to get back to its winning ways.
Clayton Kershaw (11-1, 1.57 ERA) takes the ball for the Dodgers. He's 11-1 with a 1.57 ERA and three complete games this season. The Dodgers have won by two runs or more in six of his last nine starts, and then we should keep in mind that more often than not he's gone toe-to-toe with another ace. That's obviously not the case tonight.
Pirates are 0-8 in their last eight during game 3 of a series and 3-9 in their last 12 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. Anything but a big Dodgers win here would be a major disappointment.
