Play: Cleveland Indians
Rating: 10*
The Cleveland Indians own the Detroit Tigers. They defeated the Tigers 12-1 last night to book an 11th straight win in the series and I like Cleveland's dominance to continue today.
Michael Fulmer (8-2, 2.17 ERA) takes the ball for Detroit on Wednesday, and while the 23 year old is enjoying a terrific rookie season, Cleveland is one of few teams he's struggled with. Fulmer was reached for five runs on 10 hits in five innings of a 9-4 loss at here at Progressive Field almost exactly two months ago.
Cleveland turns to Josh Tomlin (9-1, 3.21 ERA) who struck out eight while holding the Jays to one run through six innings his last time out. Tomlin is 3-0 with a 2.61 ERA in three meetings with Detroit this season. J.D. and Victor Martinez are a combined 8-for-37 against the right-hander.
Indians are 10-1 in their last 11 games vs. a right-handed starter. Indians are 8-1 in their last nine games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. Indians are 8-1 in Tomlins last nine home starts. We also have a favorable umpire with Indians 6-1 in their last seven games with Tim Timmons behind home plate while the Tigers 1-4 in their last 5 games with Timmons behind home plate.
