The Pittsburgh Pirates will no doubt be fired up for this contest after back-to-back losses to the Friars. They're 8-2 in their last 10 Sunday games and 10-3 in their last 13 home games.

Today the Pirates hand the ball to Trevor Williams (5-2, 2.72 ERA) who tossed seven scoreless innings of a 7-0 home triumph over the White Sox his last time out. The 26 year old right-hander has been stellar at home all season, allowing two or fewer runs in each of his four starts at PNC Park and in 13 of his past 14 there dating to June 27.

The Padres turn to Jordan Lyles (1-1, 2.53 ERA) who was elevated from the bullpen to the rotation only recently. He pitched seven perfect innings, 7 1/3 in all, giving up one hit with 10 strikeouts on Tuesday in a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies. His career numbers against the Pirates are extremely poor though, going 0-5 with a 7.82 ERA in nine appearances (seven starts).
