Money Line: -154.00 NY Rangers (Away)
Result: Win
The set-up: The 25-12-1 NY Rangers will be in Denver tonight to take on the 12-22-1 Colorado Avalanche, who have one last chance to avoid going win-less at home for the month of December. The Avalanche have dropped nine in a row at home (0-8-1), including an 0-6-0 mark at Pepsi Center this month and own the fewest points (25) in the league.
NY Rangers: The Rangers have won the first two games following the holiday break and kicked off their short two-game road trip with a 6-3 victory at Arizona on Thursday. The Rangers scored four times on the power play in the win and are 14-3 when outscoring opponents on special teams. No. 1 Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has missed each of New York's first two games back with the flu but could be well enough to start Saturday night.
Colorado: The Avalanche lost 4-2 loss in Dallas on Thursday, their 14th loss in 17 games (3-13-1). Getting back home is no solace, as the team also owns the NHL's worst home record at 4-12-1. "We just got to keep going, keep digging in and try to win some hockey games," Colorado head coach Jared Bednar said following Thursday's loss.
The pick:The Rangers are the league's highest scoring team (3.34 GPG) and in going 12-6-0 on the road, are averaging 3.11 GPG. Colorado is allowing 3.29 GPG in all games and it's even worse at home, where the team has allowed 3.41 GPG. Visitors used to have trouble winning at Pepsi Center but the Avalanche are not just losing at home, they are getting beaten handily. They have been outscored 12-3 in the last two games at Pepsi Center. Make the Rangers an 8* play.
