The set-up

Don’t look now but the Nationals are on a tear. With quality starting pitching and a very effective bullpen, they have won 8 of 9. Starting for Washington is Erick Fedde (4-4 and an era of 3.33). Fedde has given up no earned runs in his last three starts and is 3-1 in day games started.

Vince Velasquez for the Phillies has fallen from the heights of May and hasn’t gone more than 5 innings in four starts, with an era ballooning to 4.44. Phillies’ bullpen has been solid but has been worked hard of late. Washington’s bullpen has been excellent and is well rested.

Of note: Phillies’ batters are weaker against left handed pitching.
