We believe that Jameson Taillon has much more than just a "punchers chance" this afternoon against the inconsistent defending champs:
Taillon: He's 5-2 with a 2.73 ERA. Taillon went five-scoreless against the Phillies on Tuesday, allowing four hits to go along with nine strikeouts. Taillon comes into the break on fire, having posted back-to-back scoreless outings. Note that he's 3-1 with a tiny 2.31 ERA on the road this season.
Jon Lester: He's 5-5 with a 3.94 ERA. Lester most recently gave up five runs over five innings in a loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday, also giving up nine hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Lester looked great before this most recent dud, note that he's 3-2 with a 3.19 ERA at home thus far.
The bottom line: Pittsburgh is 16-13 (+5.6 units) in all "day" games this year, while Chicago is just 19-21 (-12.2 units) in all day contests. The value is simply too good to turn down, play on the PIRATES.
