A desperate home side is going to find a way to get the job done tonight. The Reds have been horrible of late and their chances of reaching the playoffs for a fourth time in the last five years is in trouble if they don't immediately start turning things around at the plate; they sit six games behind the Brewers in the wild-card hunt after dropping eight of their last nine and are just one loss shy of falling below .500 for the first since mid June. The home side turns to veteran Homer Bailey (8-5, 4.22 ERA) to bail them out; Bailey gave up three solo shots in a 4-3 setback at Milwaukee on Tuesday. Note though that Bailey has been super sharp in front of the home town crowd this year, he's 5-1 with a very respectable 2.79 ERA in his last seven starts at Great American Ball Park. Here is a perfect opponent to get untracked against, the Diamondbacks come in with zero momentum after losing for a fourth time in six games in Sunday's 4-2 setback to Philadelphia. The visitors counter with Chase Anderson (6-4, 3.58 ERA) who gave up two runs over six frames in his team's 5-4 win over the Tigers on Tuesday. While past success guarantees nothing in the future, Bailey and the home side can play with the confidence in knowing that they've won 11 of the last 15 meetings in this series, including taking three of four in Arizona at the start of the season. I think this is a great price on a clearly under-achieving home side; play on the REDS.
