Stephen Nover's July Total of the Month
(MLB) Detroit vs. LA Angels, 07/25/2014 6:05 PM, Score: 1 - 2
Total: 8.00 | 100.00 Under
Result: Loss
Before we even get to the pitching matchup, we have two top offenses here. Detroit is No. 2 in batting average and No. 3 in runs scored. The Angels are No. 2 in runs and No. 3 in average. There are perfect weather conditions with only a slight breeze that will be blowing out.

These also are the two top hitting clubs against lefties - and a pair of struggling southpaws are going.

Drew Smyly has allowed 14 earned runs in his last four starts spanning 21 1/3 innings. He's been tagged for four homers in his last three games. Smyly has a 4.20 road ERA. The Tigers' bullpen has struggled all season.

Tyler Skaggs has given up 11 earned runs in his past two starts spanning 11 2/3 innings. He's yielded 15 hits during this span. The over has cashed 11 of the last 15 times Skaggs has pitched. The over also has cashed seven of the last eight times Skaggs has pitched at home.

Playing the over has been a huge money-maker, too, in Tiger games where the total has been lined between 7 and 8 1/2 cashing 69 percent of the time during the past 46 instances.

It certainly is not too much to ask these strong offenses to each produce four runs against a pair of struggling starters.
